  • Ethiopia

Tribes in southern Ethiopia have developed very strong, independent cultures. They live traditional lifestyles, isolated from technology and modern conveniences. Two children of the Karo tribe pose by the river on which they rely to fulfill their basic needs. June 2014
  • Madagascar

This series wouldn't be complete without a snapshot from Madagascar. Rickshaws are ubiquitous in the developing world, but nowadays you see them pulled by bicycles, motorcycles, or autos. Madagascar is the only place I've traveled where they still operate under human power. Can you believe this photo was taken just this month? November 2014
  • Egypt

To travel back in time, there's no better place than Egypt. Stepping into a temple can transport you back not hundreds, but thousands of years. Sunbeams illuminate the ancient halls of Dendera. April 2014
  • Myanmar

It's tough to pick my favorite country, but Myanmar most readily comes to mind. Nearly every picture I took in there could be included in this series -- the decades seem to have passed it by. The trains may not have been renovated since colonial times, but the warm, welcoming people more than make up for the discomfort of the hard, wooden seats. February 2012
  • Morocco

The deeper you wander into the medinas of Morocco, the further you fall back through the centuries. Perhaps the culmination are the tanneries of Fes. Here, the leather-making industry has remained largely unchanged since medieval times. Workers spend their days knee-deep in cow urine and pigeon dung, major ingredients in the concoction used to treat goat hides. March 2014
